The pub was still displaying a St. George's flag, presumably a leftover from the 2010 World Cup football competition. Image Image

The Queens Head (pub sign), 125 Bromsgrove Road, Batchley, Redditch
The Queen may be a very young Victoria, or perhaps Queen Caroline (Caroline of Brunswick), the wife of King George IV. The Queen was very popular with the British public, while her estranged husband was not. Caroline died in 1821, but the pub looks as if it could date from around then, or even earlier. An oddity of the pub's sign and the names on the sides of the building, is that they all say Queens' Head, when you would expect (if you expect punctuation at all in pub names) Queen's Head. Vernier Springs & Pressings, Vernier Works, Redditch
On Edward Street. One of Redditch's traditional metal working industries. Redditch initially became a centre for needle manufacture with hooks and springs following later. It was getting dusky and I think my Canon pushed to 1600 ISO would have done better than my Lumix. For more information see - http://verniersprings.com/
