If Astwood Bank were a big town, this would probably be described as a back street pub, as it is certainly tucked away, where you wouldn't perhaps expect to find one. It is however a popular traditional pub, which also does food.

Oddfellows Arms (3) - sign, 24 Foregate Street, Astwood Bank
The Oddfellows refers to a number of friendly societies and fraternal organisations which were set up to protect and care for their members and communities at a time before the welfare state, trade unions and National Health Service existed. Many of them still exist today, although on a smaller scale than in the past. Pubs with the name Oddfellows or Oddfellows Arms were almost certainly used in the past as a meeting place by an Oddfellows lodge.
