Hillfield Hall
A Tudor house built by William Hawes in 1576 and later occupied by the Fielding and Greswolde families. The south front was destroyed by fire in 1867 but was rebuilt; the west front, seen here, is largely original though heavily restored. The inscription above the door reads: H/WV 1576. Hic hospites, in coelo cives ("Here we are guests, but in heaven we shall be citizens"). The Hall became a restaurant in 1974 and was later converted into apartments as Image For a postcard view from 1903 see https://tuckdb.org/postcards/31581 and for another (coloured) from 1904 see http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/jy100/8671696/118496/118496_original.jpg The hall is listed Grade II http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-218258-hillfield-hall-solihull

Hillfield Hall Court
The Tudor Image has been tastefully remodelled into a residential complex; in the metamorphosis the functions of the north and south turrets seem to have been interchanged, so that it is the south tower (to the right) that now has the entrance door and inscription. This section of Hillfield Road has been renamed Fielding Lane, perpetuating the name of one of the families who occupied the original hall.

Grazed by a couple of horses (off shot to the right) this field also sported a small flock of fieldfares as I passed.
