31 Water Street, Birmingham
At the corner with Livery Street. Aka Derwent House, built as a foundry and offices for Taylor & Challen Ltd (engineers), whose name can be made out at the top. Originally of 1902-12, but subsequently extended and remodelled three times. The listing remarks that it is "an innovative contemporary design influenced by the work of the eminent C20 German architect and industrial designer Peter Behrens". Grade II listed.

Farmer's Bridge Locks
Looking down from Snow Hill station to the BCN as it descends Farmer's Bridge locks heading towards Aston Junction. This picture was taken at a time when Snow Hill station was closed and the land used for car parking. The lock drops the canal under Constitution Hill and it can be seen re-appearing in the distance in near the top right of the picture. The canal has been extensively opened up and smarted up (above the waterline at least!!) since this picture was taken and is enjoying a new popularity. Unfortunately however it has also meant the canal has lost its almost secretive, world of its own character that used to be so endearing. As can be seen from the picture, although it was a bit scruffy, it was almost completely isolated from the hustle and bustle of the city streets.

Derwent Works of Taylor & Challen Ltd
Taylor & Challen were major manufacturers of machine tools, especially power presses and this monumental building is now listed. The part on the extreme left appears to have been converted to accommodation.

Snow Hill Station (GWR) - running for the train
A single coach railcar departs for Wolverhampton Low Level pursued by 2 passengers. I can report that the guard took pity on them & stopped the train at the end of the platform.
