Shop at the corner of Bond Street and Bournville Lane, Stirchley
A ornate moulding above the shop front proclaims it to be 'Bournville Market'. Other corner properties have similar plaques. Most of the shops on Bournville Lane are no longer used as such, having been converted into dwellings. This one is an office of a company selling fire extinguishers - I suspect few people will just pop down to the corner shop for some fire protection.

Reliance Fire Protection, 2 Bond Street, Stirchley, Birmingham
Located on the corner of Bond Street and Bournville Lane. Next door at No. 16 Bournville Lane is Bournville Fish Bar. The metal chimney at the front is not very attractive and probably wouldn't be allowed in the more upmarket areas of the city. For a closer view of the decorative detail above the entrance door to 2 Bond Street see:- Image

Details on 2 Bond Street, Stirchley, Birmingham
Unusual decorative details above the entrance door. Presumably some kind of advertisement for the local Bournville Market. The date of 1899 is at the top of the building. Somewhat similar, but not identical, decorative work appear on other property in Bournville Lane. Image

Premises on the corner of Bournville Lane & Bond Street, Stirchley, Birmingham
It is not clear if the property on the corner is still in business use or, like so many others here, has changed to residential use. Bond Street is on the right. The property, like others in this street, has decorative work regarding Bournville Market above its entrance. For a closer view please see:- Image

Bournville Lane, Stirchley
Near the junction with Bond Street. Looking uphill towards the canal, railway line and chocolate factory. This is an area of late 19th century terraced housing. Above the shop fronts on the street corners her are mouldings proclaiming this to be 'Bournville Market', although many of the shops lining Bournville Lane appear to have been turned into dwellings.

Stirchley Public Baths
Stirchley Baths are situated at the junction of Bournville Lane and Hazelwell Street. This grade II listed building was built land provided by the Cadburys and officially opened on July 25th 1911 The swimming pool has been closed for 20 years or more and in very poor state. The state of the baths mirrors the general economic decline in the Stirchley area in the 1970s/80s. There are plans to regenerate the area and several applications being considered for various retail developments on adjacent sites. Proposals by the co-op, who have a very large superstore nearby, includes renovation of the baths. Update - February 2012: In 2011 Tesco announced an agreement with Birmingham City Council for purchase land required for the construction of a new supermarket, occupied by Stirchley Community Centre and an indoor bowls centre. The money raised is to be used to restore Stirchley Baths for use as new community centre.
