4 Temple Row West, Birmingham
An expensive bank (originally for the Birmingham Joint Stock Bank), "its facade a study in interpenetrating orders". We have Doric under Corinthian. Each column has its own base and entablature and they are not connected which seems to give the facade extra depth. By J.A. Chatwin, 1862-64. Grade II listed. Now a Fuller's pub, named in homage, the Old Joint Stock.

Temple Row West from St Philip's Churchyard
Nineteenth-century commercial buildings line Temple Row West to the southwest of St Philip's churchyard, which is the burial ground of the Church of England Cathedral and is known to Brummies as 'Pigeon Park'. The building on the left is occupied on the ground floor by Damascena, one of a local chain of Syrian cafe-restaurants. To its right is the Old Joint Stock pub and theatre, with a very grand Victorian facade and interior in a classical style. It was designed by J A Chatwin, a Birmingham architect, as a library and was completed in 1864. It was soon taken over by the Birmingham Joint Stock Bank, which merged with Lloyds Bank in 1889. It was converted into a pub in 1997. It is a grade II listed building, as is the K6 telephone kiosk of 1930s design outside Damascena https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1365317?section=official-list-entry . For more about the Joint Stock building see the official listing at Historic England https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1343158?section=official-list-entry and the Wikipedia entry for the theatre https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Joint_Stock_Theatre .
