'Sir Lamiel' at Tyseley in the 1970s
Visitors at a steaming day in the early days of the Birmingham Railway Museum, now Tyseley Locomotive Works. A GWR King Class and an LMS Black 5 locomotive were in action, but the engine in the centre, Southern Railway King Arthur Class 30777 "Sir Lamiel" was not. After restoration it eventually steamed again in 1982. The engine on the left is a Great Northern Railway J52 saddle tank. (The small Instamatic print from which this image was scanned is not dated, so the date I have appended is vague.) For more about "Sir Lamiel", try http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/the-railway/locomotives/30777-sir-lamiel/ .

Birmingham Railway Museum - basket case?
This is now Tyseley Locomotive Works and capable of top quality maintenance and restoration work. If I recall correctly this sorry wreck, that had been acquired for spares, was GWR Castle class No. 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe. It has now been fully restored and is a storming performer on the main line. I had forgotten taking its photograph much earlier. The restoration was undertaken between 1998 and 2008.
