Redbourn Telephone Exchange
Situated in Waterend Lane, this TE is of a standard design that was introduced during the late 1960s and is a common sight throughout the United Kingdom. It replaced a smaller building elsewhere in Redbourn which dated from the postwar GPO era. This TE provides telephone and broadband services to Redbourn and the surrounding rural area. Its numbering range is (01582) 79xxxx, the (01582) referring to the Luton group of TEs, and its postcode is AL3 7JZ.

Ford at Water End Lane, Redbourn - 1953
Not much in use by vehicular traffic, as the lane did not go anywhere, but the path went on to cross the Nicky Line railway to Harpenden. That line is now a formal path - see Nigel Cox's photo Image, which was taken just a short distance to the east. Pedestrians had the use of a footbridge just out of shot to the left. That footbridge can be seen in Image, taken 61 years later, and which shows the beautifully clear water of a chalk stream.

I wonder if there is an anger-management problem in Redbourn. It seems like a peaceful sort of place.

The Priory, Redbourn
Especially imposing, standing so close to the road, a polished early Georgian house in brown brick with gauged red brick dressings. Grade II* listed. The date of the photo is uncertain.
