A surprise in Lamb Lane
A small patch of land a few metres from the centre of Redbourn which, unlike many other patches, has remained unbuilt upon. It once supported a row of four small two-up/two-down houses, each with outside privy, and a large garden at the end.

Redbourn Library
Many years earlier, in the 1950s, the library was in Fish Street, in what I think had been an old chapel.

Cumberland House
Cumberland House is said to have been built by the 'butcher' Duke of Cumberland as a hunting box at the time when he kept his hounds at Dunstable Downs. During rebuilding one of the chimneys a brick was found with the date 1745. In 1890 the then owner, Mr R Cecil Peake, installed a generator, making it the first house in the village with electric lighting. A more recent owner was the Central Electricity Generating Board [later National Grid], who used it as an electricity supply control centre. The old car park is now used for housing, and the back part of the Cumberland House Garden has become the Village Garden.

Watling Street, Redbourn
This 2000 year old highway is now very peaceful. It was once the A5, one of the major routes to the north, until it was bypassed, partly by the M1 and then by a local bypass [A5183]. A major contributor to the heavy traffic of the High Street were the lorries from the Bedfordshire brickworks taking vast quantities of bricks for the renewal and expansion of London. Like the traffic, the brickworks have also gone
