St Albans: St Michael's Church
The church seems to have been first built as one of three, each on a main road that originally lead into St Albans, in order to receive pilgrims and to prepare them for their visit to the shrine of St. Alban within the Abbey. The parish's most famous resident was probably the philosopher and statesman Sir Francis Bacon, 1st Viscount St Alban, (1561 – 1626). The Church's comprehensive website is here http://www.stmichaels-parishchurch.org.uk/home.asp
