Set at the far end of St Michael's Street, this church is said to pre-date the Norman Conquest in about 948. It contains the grave and monument to Sir Francis Bacon (1561-1626), Lord Verulam, and Viscount St Albans from the nearby Gorhambury Estate. He was Lord Chancellor of England and famous as an author, lawyer, philosopher, statesman, and scientist.
