Former Vine public house
Originally dating from the late 15th/early 16th century, although refronted and reroofed in the early/mid 19th century. Note the signs of its use for a time as an inn, "The Vine": the grape decoration above the door and "Benskins Fine Ales and Stout" painted on the brickwork. The Farriers Arms
The Farriers Arms in Lower Dagnall Street, seen from Queen Street. Built in the 19th Century and housing a corner shop, it became a pub in the 1920s. Now a free house, having been operated by Hertford brewers McMullens until 2013, it hosted the first ever meeting of CAMRA, the campaign for Real Ale, on 20 November 1972. The building is locally listed.
