Emily Evans Grave, Hill End Hospital Cemetery, St Albans
The gravestone of Emily Evans, aged 55. The 1901 census was conducted on the night of March 31st - and she is recorded as a patient in the Hertfordshire County Lunatic Asylum. She died on April 1 and the stone carried the words "Released from sorrow and pain to rest forever with the Lord".

Old 'Hill End' Railway platform, St Albans
Now a cycle and footpath, Alban Way is the route of the old Hatfield to St Albans Railway. This platform was the Hill End station. Photographed looking west. The station was opened in 1899, it served the old Mental Hospital, adjoining to the south. It was closed to passengers in 1951 although freight trains continued until 1964.
