Tympanum
It's easy to fail to notice this extravagantly carved tympanum in the pediment at the top of the Image] building. It is by A Milne, and Son of Buckie, and incorporates the initials of the Caledonian Bank, for which it was originally built.

A year ago there were three banks in Buckie, and not so long before that there were also two building societies. A couple of weeks ago the Royal Bank of Scotland abandoned all pretence of providing a service to its customers in this part of the world, and closed its Buckie branch, so the Bank of Scotland is now the only bank still left in the town. I wonder for how much longer? The building was originally the Caledonian Bank, designed by Ross and Macbeth and built in 1905-1906. It features a fine Image]

Buckie Active Station
The white dome is a differential GPS unit. It is situated on Buckie Fire Station. These are the transmitters used in the highly accurate GPS units that some folk are dragging around the hills demoting munros with. Of course they have a far more serious use.
