The Beatles were here!
Or at least three-quarters of them were (the missing quarter was Ringo Starr). They toured in 1960 and played in several venues, including Keith and Elgin.

St Thomas' Church
This is Keith's fine Italianate Roman Catholic Church. It was built in 1831-1832 to a design by Father Walter Lovi in collaboration with William Robertson. Father Lovi travelled extensively, soliciting donations towards the building of the church. The church is said to have been modelled on Santa Maria degli Angeli in Rome, but I cannot see any resemblance http://www.santamariadegliangeliroma.it/paginamastersing.html?codice_url=esterno&lingua=ITALIANO&ramo_home=Photo_Gallery. There is, however, a passing resemblance to Santa Maria degli Angeli near Assisi in Perugia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_of_Santa_Maria_degli_Angeli though St Thomas' is very much plainer. See Image] for a similar view in 1983.

The Roman Catholic church serving the Keith area. See also Image] and Image The copper dome was green because copper oxidises over time to form verdigris, but it has been refurbished twice since this was taken.

St Thomas' Primary School
I find it a little sad that the fine St Thomas' Church should be flanked by such a dreary concrete block sort of building. However it's what goes on inside that is important, and I don't doubt that it is entirely fit for purpose.
