Main Street
New Deer dates from 1803. It is one of the planned villages which were founded between 1750 and 1850 by landlords inspired by the Scottish Enlightenment. They can easily be recognised by their rectangular street layout, wide streets, and houses built facing the street rather than gables to the street.

The Gothic building on the right is the St Kane's Hall, originally a United Presbyterian church. It was built in 1876-1877 to a design by George Marr and cost £1400.
