Old walled garden
The old walled garden at Dalgetie Castle, sadly no longer in use. Note the low wall to the right which is the south side of the garden and the carefully curved top to the east and west walls where they get lower towards the south. There is a plan to build houses here.

Doocot at Delgatie Castle
There are various styles of doocot; this one is a beehive doocot. The protruding horizontal courses of stone were to prevent rats getting into the building and raiding the nestboxes.

Cottage at Delgatie Castle
This curious cottage stands at the foot of the path up to the castle. It looks as if it is an older cottage which has been embellished with Gothic finials and carvings. The shield above the door bears the main element of the coat of arms of the Hay family, three shields, and on either side are depictions of the family emblem, an ox-yoke.

A Very Unusual Waterwheel
This waterwheel at Delgatie Castle works on a circulation system, water is pumped up from below the waterwheel and directed onto the wheel from the pipe above. The force of the water, from the pipe drives the wheel. I have seen many water wheels in my lifetime but I have never seen one powered from above before.

Mystery Structure
We have no real idea what this structure is or was. There are steps down into the water at the far end, and there is an overshot water wheel in front of the hut in the centre of the far side, but no obvious way of supplying water to it. The pool itself looks grubby, but not stagnant. Note the cottage and doocot beyond.
