When banks looked like banks...
Former Town and County Bank, High Street, Turriff. According to the Buildings of Scotland (Pevsner) Guide, it is in "modest Cinquecento palazzo" style. Note the carved heads above the ground floor windows and the huge first floor sash windows. Originally, the left door was for the bank and the right door for the agent's house. The Mercat Cross in Turriff
The market cross that stands in the middle of Castle Street, dates back to the 1500s, on a base made for it in 1865. The castle from which Castle Street took its name no longer exists.

Mercat Cross
The cross stands close to a mini-roundabout on the main road round the present town centre. Behind it is a glimpse of the gable of St Congan's Kirk.
