Castlegate Newsagents
Each time I pass along the High Street, this building grates on me. It is so totally out of keeping with the 18th and 19th century houses round about.

Banff bank II
The Banff Royal Bank of Scotland branch (originally the Commercial Bank of Scotland: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commercial_Bank_of_Scotland ) is still open in May 2018, but for how much longer? The building dates from 1937 and is B-listed (LB22034), largely for its interior: http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB22034 .

8 and 10 Castle Street
This block dates from about 1770, and is a Category B listed building. The sign with the blue anchor is part of the signposting of the Fishing Heritage Trail. This was an initiative to draw tourists to the many fishing villages along the east coast of Scotland. Sadly, Visit Scotland does not support it, so although the signposts survive, the maps, leaflets and interpretation are no longer available. In fact, at the time of writing (April 2014), Visit Scotland's web page on 'Islands and Coasts' doesn't mention the fact that Scotland has an east coast, apart from Fife and 30 miles or so between Dundee and Montrose that it has only recently realised exists.
