Old Deer.
This Buchan village sits by the Aden & Pitfour Estates, just by the Formartine & Buchan way, a path following the old Maud - Peterhead railway line. The parish church, seen here, was built with a library in its basement. The large house is Old Bank House and the passing tractor with trailer give a flavour of the farming roots of this area.

St Drostan's Church
St Drostan's belongs to the Scottish Episcopal Church. It is a difficult church to photograph well, because it is hemmed in by other buildings and its main elevation faces north. This is the south elevation, which is the rear of the building, seen from the storage area of Thistle Marine next door. The church dates from 1851 and his notable stained glass windows. St Drostan, to whom it is dedicated, was a contemporary of St Columba. For information about him see http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/scotgaz/people/famousfirst97.html

Old Bank House, Old Deer
As the name implies, the former Clydesdale Bank and before that, the North of Scotland Bank. B-listed: http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/sc-16084-clydesdale-bank-abbey-street-old-deer#.VwbHfaT2amQ .

Cottage, Abbey Street, Old Deer
The unusual projecting window at the corner suggests a toll-house, but the Buildings of Scotland (Pevsner) Guide states that the turnpike avoided Old Deer.

Old Deer public hall
A substantial granite building for a small village. The dedication stone notes that it was the gift in 1937 of the Reverend Robert Kemp, who served as minister to the village for 54 years: http://www.olddeer.org.uk/cgi-bin/delivtext?currentpageno=4&textsection=Geography%20and%20history
