Formartine and Buchan Way, NW of Old Deer.
This stretch of former railway line is embanked as it approaches the South Ugie Water bridge. Two deer were seen in the field above - by Old Deer village!

Old Deer public hall
A substantial granite building for a small village. The dedication stone notes that it was the gift in 1937 of the Reverend Robert Kemp, who served as minister to the village for 54 years: http://www.olddeer.org.uk/cgi-bin/delivtext?currentpageno=4&textsection=Geography%20and%20history

South Ugie Water, by Saplinbrae.
This was taken from the old railway bridge which now carries the Formartine & Buchan Way across the river. The hill is Saplinbrae on which is the Saplinbrae House Hotel. Right of the hill (hidden from view) is Pitfour Lake, one of Scotland's very few lakes - and not as well known as the Lake of Menteith. The fields hereabouts are rich agricultural land, good for cattle & sheep, cereals, pasture and root crops.
