Newburgh: beware of ducks in the fog
Female eider ducks and their young roost on the slipway as the haar rolls in from the North Sea. The new town houses have recently been built on the site of the old Mitchell and Rae granary.

Newburgh: High tide at The Quay
Newburgh quay was once a working port on the Ythan Estuary with ships bringing in coal and fertiliser and exporting grain. The grain was brought down river on barges, and dried and processed in a mill on the quay. The site has now been cleared and in late 2008 the final touches were being put to The Quay, a development of town houses and flats that enjoy the most magnificent of views.

This new development at the Quay reminds me of the buildings in some of the new resorts in the western part of the French Mediterranean.

The Quay
The Quay is a modern development at the north end of Newburgh. It overlooks a bay where, so we were tolds, flocks of Eider congregate when the tide is coming in. It was going out when we were there, and we saw no Eider.

Seals and a very high tide on the Ythan estuary
Seals in the estuary of the River Ythan on one of the highest tides of the year. The buildings under construction in the background are a new development of waterside town houses and flats. Not much of a safety margin for the predicted rise in sea levels!
