The Invercauld Arms Hotel, Braemar
The Invercauld Arms Hotel now occupies the site where John Erskine, 24th earl of Mar raised the Jacobite standard on 6th September 1715. Snubbed by King George I, the earl of Mar switched his allegiance to the exiled Stewart king, acquiring the nickname of "Bobbin' John".

Plaque on the memorial stone opposite the Invercauld Arms Hotel
This memorial Image commemorates the raising of the standard in 1715. http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/29747/details/braemar+invercauld+arms+hotel/ states that part of the Invercauld Arms Hotel was built over the spot where the standard of the Chevalier de St. George was unfurled and that there is some debate as to whether this was on the 6th or the 9th September 1715. There used to be a brass plate below one of the windows but this was removed several years ago. As the plaque here mentions, there is a tablet in one of the lounges of the hotel, but I don't know if that is the same plate as had been under the window.
