Bridge of Alford
Over the River Don to the west of Alford. The 3-arch bridge was built in 1811 at what was then known as 'Boat of Forbes', replacing an earlier ford and a ferry.

Bridge Of Alford in Bridge Of Alford
Built in 1810-11 and repaired in 1829, the Bridge Of Alford carries the A944 across the River Don. It is a Category B listed building.

River Don
I followed the riverbank path to this point, only to find that it had collapsed into the river, probably during last winter's spate. This is the view downstream.

Thomas Telford's Bridge at Bridge of Alford
Built in 1811 at a cost of £2000, a 3 span masonry arch bridge by the engineer who was to become the first President of the Institution of Civil Engineers. The bridge was reconstructed in 1987, according to the plaque on the west parapet.

River Bank Erosion
The path along the river bank has been partly demolished by the river, presumably during last winter's spate. This is a bit of river bank that has collapsed and will no doubt soon be removed altogether.
