Barclay Vault
The low fragment of masonry is one end of the barrel-vaulted Barclay Vault. This was the burial place of the Barclays of Johnston and Balmakewan. Like the Thornton Vault, it was entered directly from the old kirk.

Aberluthnott Parish Kirk
The kirk was built in 1806, and replaced the older building, dedicated to St Mary, which stood in what is now the kirkyard. Its formal name recalls the ancient name of the parish, which was changed to Marykirk in the 16th century.

Thornton Aisle
Two of the side aisles of the old kirk are all that survive. The building right of centre is the Thornton Aisle, which contains memorials to the family who owned the land until it passed to the Strachans in 1309. It was returned to the Thorntons in 1893 by Sir Thomas Thornton, who was Town Clerk of Dundee. It had become ruinous but has been restored. See Image
