Class 47 and Royal Train
A British Rail Class 47 is coupled up to the Royal Train in Aberdeen Station, in preparation for departure, heading south. The Royal Train was upgraded for use during Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977. Her Majesty visited Aberdeen on 20th May 1977 as part of her Silver Jubilee tour of the UK. The previous day she had been in Perth and Dundee, from where she travelled north in the Royal Train.

A class 73 diesel locomotive at the head of the Caledonian Sleeper
Locomotive 73966 waiting to haul the Aberdeen section of the Highland sleeper to Edinburgh. This is a dual mode electro-diesel built in the 1960s for use on the Southern Region of British Railways. The locomotive was extensively rebuilt in 2015 for use on Caledonian Sleeper services on the non-electrified highland routes. It was anticipated that the new sleeper carriages would be introduced from April but teething problems identified during testing in Czechoslovakia will delay introduction until October. Unfortunately, the yellow cast of the image is caused by the station ambient lighting.

Dandelions on the end of the platform, Aberdeen Station
A young child sits on the end of one of the platforms at Aberdeen Station. He/she is apparently more interested in the dandelions growing through the cracks between the paving slabs than the man on the right (presumably his/her father) and older sibling, who are waiting for the departure of the Royal Train, headed by the British Rail Class 47 on the right. On the left is a freight train headed by a British Rail Class 25.
