A British Rail Class 47 is coupled up to the Royal Train in Aberdeen Station, in preparation for departure, heading south. The Royal Train was upgraded for use during Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977. Her Majesty visited Aberdeen on 20th May 1977 as part of her Silver Jubilee tour of the UK. The previous day she had been in Perth and Dundee, from where she travelled north in the Royal Train.
