Union Terrace Gardens in spring.
The gardens sit in a steep section of the Denburn Valley, beside the railway line to Inverness. The Denburn is now culverted and enters the Dee at Aberdeen harbour. In the distance is His Majesty's Theatre - more granite!

Golden Square
Above is the east side of the square. The fine ashlar granite houses are now mainly occupied by offices and the centre of the square has become an ever busy car park. Railings fence off the "sunks", the basements which are below street level. The coat-of-arms is ornate, with heraldic leopards holding the red shield with three silver towers. The civic motto, "Bon Accord" is above the shield.

Golden Square, Aberdeen
Golden Square is a quiet corner of the city only a few yards north of Union Street. The houses here were originally built between 1810 and 1820 and the square was considered a highly desirable place to live for better-off Aberdonians. Since Edwardian times the buildings have largely become offices - mainly for professional firms. The spire belongs to St Mary's Catholic Cathedral.
