Constructed 1935-37 to a design by Dublin architects Millar & Symes. The bank still occupies part of the building with a café now in the left hand ground floor (which extends below ground into the basement). See also Image Up until the middle of the 19th century this was the site of the 'Black Hole', described by Marcus Patton "a place of confinement to which the Provost of Bangor could send disturbers of the peace. Its walls were from three to four feet thick, and so strongly built that its demolition required blasting" (from http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bangor-Historical-Gazetteer-Marcus-Patton/dp/090045752X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1217842346&sr=8-1 ). After demolition of the 'Black Hole' this was the site of Bangor Endowed School, built in 1856 - the school is now known as Bangor Grammar School and is located on College Avenue - see Image
