The church is dedicated to Cyngar, the son of King Garen Llyngesog of Dumnonia and a direct descendant of Cunedda Wledig, the king of Manaw Gododdin in present day Clackmannan, who was born around 490CE. Little is known of Cyngar. The present church dates from 1824.
