A train hauled by a rebuilt "West Country" Class locomotive pulls into platform 1 at the station. The headcode shows this to be a train on the Bournemouth West to Waterloo route. The locomotive is 34017 "Ilfracombe", built in 1945 and withdrawn in 1966. It was rebuilt in 1957 from the original "air smooth casing" (streamlined) design. For an example of the original design of these locomotives, see Image At this time, the buildings on platform 1 were still in their original 1895 form.
