The Cumbria Way leaves the Caldew Cycleway and turns left onto the Viaduct Estate Road (next photograph Image). The West Coast Main Line Railway from Carlisle to Glasgow runs behind the green palisade fence, climbing towards Carlisle Station. Note the overhead catenary mast unusually sited outside the railway boundary, also the elevated electrical equipment cabinets to protect them from flooding. Carlisle city wall is in the background.
