A Magnificent Twisted Tree

I have no idea what species the tree is, but it did have very conical dark cones, which I was unable to identify conclusively from the various online resources. It seems odd that there were no leaves present, just cones lower down, but maybe that's just an old conifer thing. There are some leaves way way up high, after the trunk has gone back to the ground and bounced back up again. There was a ridiculous but entertaining film I watched at the pictures a year or two ago, in which a group of tourists get isolated in some remote tropical bay and start ageing at about five years a day. On top of the obvious plotlines there was a very vain woman, who for reasons I can't fully remember kept bashing into things when she got 'older', and since her bones didn't have time to reset properly she ended up looking rather like this tree. I'm not sure if it is a good or bad thing that that is all I really remember about the story now, but every time I come across a tree like this... If anyone goes to look for this tree in years to come it is close to the edge of the wood that runs by the school, and the camera direction might be slightly off as I forgot my compass, but it's hard to miss really.
