There was a medieval priory nearby, of which only the building now housing the cricket museum remains, and Historic England suggest that this building probably dates from the early 19th century, as there is a date of 1827 scratched on the parapet (not visible in this photo even at high resolution, it may have been whitewashed over). Nevertheless it is listed grade II (List entry 1278913).
