In the villages which will be affected there is a lot of opposition to the proposed new southern route into Cambridge of the East West Railway, a revival of the Oxford-Bedford-Cambridge route closed and partly dismantled in the 1960s. The "better way" highlighted on this banner would enter Cambridge from the north, but this is less favoured by the promoters of the new line. The train in the background of this picture taken on Newton Road south of Harston is on the last leg of its journey from King's Cross. The red livery of the last four coaches was new to me.
