The picture was taken looking upstream roughly halfway between the A71 bridge/culvert and Williamston Bridge. A decent path leads between both crossings and wherever it veers away slightly from the water fainter muddier paths appear taking you closer to the bank. The woodland straddling the burn is known as Manse Covert, a name that often still appears on maps. A manse, as most people know, is the house provided for a minister of a church, though looking at old maps it seems this minister actually got a whole farm for his duties! The 'Covert' bit of the name refers to woodland designed for game to live in. It does seem odd looked at through modern eyes, but religious men obviously used to like a bit of 'sport', blasting birds out of the sky and firing at animals in the woods!
