In common with many other large employers at the time, British Rail trained its own staff in-house and had a network of residential colleges around the country for technical and managerial training. These were disposed of at the time of privatisation with the function largely outsourced by the various companies that now comprised the rail industry. However, in 2005 Network Rail changed this policy and purchased the Westwood training centre, formerly the Cable and Wireless College, in the outskirts of Coventry. Tile Hill is the nearest station (17 minutes walk away, according to the map). As a rail based organisation, Network Rail would expect most attendees to arrive by train so this notice is posted close to the station exit.
