Just put this picture up as there are so few obvious traces round here of how massively industrial this area once was - brick works, clay pits, quarries, shale mines, and railways and tramways criss-crossing all over the place. There is a detailed 1908 geological OS map on the National Library's unrivalled website, which is pretty interesting viewing.
