Adfail anhedd-dy o'r enw Esgair-ceir. Dyma le y bu Gwenallt, y bardd mawr o Bontardawe, yn hala ei wyliau haf gyda'i wncwl a'i famgu 'Rwy'n cofio am fy mam-gu yn Esgeir-ceir Yn eistedd wrth y tân ac yn pletio'i ffedog; Croen ei hwyneb mor felynsych â llawysgrif Peniarth, A'r Gymraeg ar ei gwefusau oedrannus yn Gymraeg Pantycelyn.' The remains of Esgair-ceir where Gwenallt, the famous poet from Pontardawe, would spend his summer holidays with his uncle and grandmother. 'I remember my grandmother in Esgeir-ceir Sitting by the fire pleating her apron; Her face was dry and yellowy wrinkled like a Peniarth manuscript, And the language on her aged old lips was the Welsh of Pantycelyn.'
