The entrance to car parking area at Benton Quarry Park off Whitley Road. As part of the government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic which struck in the early months of 2020 laws were introduced prohibiting travel for all but essential reasons. Because of this North Tyneside Council closed their car parks to discourage recreational travel. The instruction to 'Stay at Home, Protect the NHS and Save Lives was widely promoted across the country to reinforce the government's core advice.
