According to the parish website, the church (which is unlisted) was built in the 1920's under the auspices of the Jesuits, but after the Jesuit Fathers moved out in 1947, the church came under the control of Leeds (Catholic) diocese. The Twentieth Century Society website adds to the building's history: the 1926 building was merely a "brick hall" by J. Armstrong, completed by Edward Simpson in 1930, and reordered in 1960 with a reconstructed East end by Derek Walker.
