The old town walls on Bath Lane

This is part of the largest surviving stretch of Newcastle's medieval walls. They were built in 13th and 14th centuries as protection against Scottish raids. They had towers at intervals, and the Durham Tower can be seen here. In the late C20, this area was landscaped to give a better view of the walls.
