Robert Owen's School for Children opened in 1817, a year after Image] and gave a good basic education to the children of the mill workers. They were taught here up to the age of at least ten, with the more academic being encouraged to continue their education until they were twelve. Together with the Institute it was fundamental to Owen's ideas and dream of improving every aspect of his workers' lives. In the background the building on the right is the Institute with the attached Engine House linked by a more recent glass-pannelled bridge to Mill No.3 (the latter hidden by the School).
