As the plaque notes (Image), a rose from the grave of Omar Khayyam was planted on the grave of his interpreter Edward Fitzgerald in the 1890s. The age of the rose within the enclosure is unclear; new roses were brought in the 1970s by the Iranian ambassador and these may have replaced the one originally within here.
