Cast iron post by the A49, in parish of STANDISH (WIGAN District), Wigan Road, by No. 229, on Railway Bridge, in pavement with back to South East corner of brick parapet to railway bridge, on East side of road. Wigan fan iron casting, erected by the Wigan & Preston (south of Yarrow) turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- LANGTREE. 2 MILES TO WIGAN. 6¼ MILES TO CHORLEY. 15 MILES TO PRESTON. {curlicue} 1837 {curlicue} Maker:- HAIGH FOUNDRY Grade II Listed.
