The fly was on the vegetation beside a Image It is similar in appearance to (and perhaps is) the species Tenthredo mesomela. The solid black feature that runs along the front edge of the wings is called the stigma (or pterostigma). The black stigma helps to distinguish this fly from similar Rhogogaster species (which have green stigmata). Some sawflies of the family Tenthredinidae cause plant galls.
