St James Church at Titsey was built in 1861 and designed by John Loughborough Pearson. It has an attached south tower and a shingled broach spire. In the opinion of Ian Nairn in The Buildings of England: Surrey - "The inside is rock-hard and almost without feeling, just the opposite of the qualities of a late Pearson church." These are the steps leading up to the south porch from the very busy Titsey Road.
