The parish of All Hallows-on-the-Wall is constrained by the medieval walls of London, remnants of which can be seen here running next to the church: although it runs around the north-east quadrant of the city, in places the parish is only a few yards wide. Here, the marker indicates that the parish boundary runs right along the northern edge of the churchyard, the wall in this picture following the line of the medieval rampart.
