The street of Cloth Fair, the site of the mediaeval annual fair, runs alongside the church of St Bartholomew the Great, Smithfield. Its buildings and lanes have survived both Great Fire and Blitz, including London's oldest lived-in house. The house, at numbers 41 and 42, was built between 1597 and 1614.
