The Leicester Tigers rugby union club are investing £8million in the redevelopment of the west side of the Welford Road stadium. Work is currently underway on the new West Stand which has replaced the old Clubhouse building which dated back to 1909. Construction started in May 2015, when completed it will bring the stadium's capacity to 26,000.
